Partial Solar Eclipse UK 2026

Back in 2017 I travelled over 600 miles from Calgary Canada to Dubois Idaho to photograph a total solar eclipse and I could not be  more thankful that I decided to do that.  It will remain one of the highlights of my life. the unexpected burst of plasma exploding from the sides of that perfect dark disc was awe-inspiring, mesmerising and genuinely unforgettable.  

Fast forward 9 years and I didn't even have to travel 6 metres to photograph my next solar eclipse. This time it was a partial solar eclipse over the UK, and I was already at home on a rare summer visit from Canada to see it. 

I confess that after the wonder of a total eclipse, the partial eclipse is a little underwhelming. However, it is still a spectacular phenomenon. The fact that the moon is 400 times smaller than the sun, but the sun is 400 times further away is a crazy coincidence that allows us to stand on our own lump of rock and see the perfect match up of scale as we all continue this endless waltz on our infinate dancefloor. 

If you stop and think about it, we spend a lot of time on our tiny little rock bitching and moaning about all kinds of things as if they actually matter.
