The Peace Bridge
A second featured shot from a larger series of the city of Calgary Canada and a previous 'main image' on my home page. The location of the shoot is beside Memorial Drive NW close to the intersection with 8th St NW on the north side of the Bow River. The Peace Bridge was opened in March 2012, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava it spans the Bow River beautifully in both daylight and darkness. The open design gives a feeling of space and security and it has quickly become an icon of the city.
In the winter when the Bow River freezes is a great time to photograph the bridge at night as the bounce light from the ice below helps illuminate the shadows and if timed correctly the moving ice in the river will add some nice streaks to the dark water during a long exposure.
