The lakes in Kananaskis have been under snow cover for some time now, I had hoped for some of them to have more clear patches with strong winds and warmer temperatures this week, but my hopes were dashed.
I made a full circuit of the area checking in at all my usual haunts in pursuit of a little methane magic. As it turns out, I could have saved myself two and a half hours as all of them were still under snow.
On the way home, a little deflated, I took the more scenic route past Sibbald Meadows and was very surprised to see the ice on the south side of the highway clear of snow and filled with methane bubbles. I have never seen this area clear enough to know if methane is regularly present, but it makes sense that it would be.
So my theory on Kananaskis holds true again, that being, Kananaskis will always reward those who take the time to visit. What an incredible thing to find right by the roadside, but then again, the incredible does seem to be more commonplace in Kananaskis.
